My favorite thing about this post is that it brought out the Londoners. I’m there almost every summer on my way to Paris. You guys should keep in touch.

Thank God for your originality, AD. Albee would have liked your play given the storyline of Sylvia, or the Goat. Allan Hollinghurst’s Swimming Pool Library is a book to be read slowly. Now I have to reread that; thank you! I think that’s where I first read the expression “poodlefaker”. Any chance you’d let your subscribers read your play? A lottery perhaps to keep it interesting?! That’s my new year wish to read your play.

It was badly written. But I want to rewrite it because the idea is good.

Londoner here. Alex we need to read your play. I love Bar Americain. It perfectly captures what the english see when they’re in America. My favourite stop is Elephant & Castle

I was 19 and wanted to go to Bar Americain so badly. But 1. I couldn't afford it. 2. Had no one to go with. Imagine me going back there, almost 20 years later, and just getting myself everything I fucking wanted. That 19 year old loved me.

Your memories sit like sequins in oak - sometimes you describe something so solidly then other times they are discs of flimsy sparkle. Together they are wonderful.

Artists both tell the truth and tell lies - they tell the truth in their work, but I think they tell lies to themselves to keep intact what is beautiful.
